Another attempt to make the games more interesting and give fans a sense of involvement
Baseball fans all over are getting used to the fact that they cannot attend a game this season due to social distancing precautions, but there's still a way to show your support. We all know the fake audience noise and cardboard cutout fans aren't doing much of anything besides looking a little stiff, so this should be some refreshing news.
For the 2020 season, MLB launched a new feature called "Cheer at the Ballpark" and it allows fans to participate virtually from the comfort of their own couches.
All you need is a computer or smartphone and tap or click on this link. After selecting your favorite team, you'll see three different reaction icons: one for cheering, booing, or clapping.
"Crowd noise operators" will have access to a dashboard during the games and they will use that to determine "fan sentiment and engagement" throughout games. It's just a little tool for them to decide what artificial sound to engage.
This is just another attempt to make the games more interesting and give fans a sense of involvement. In addition to this new feature, the games still contain stadium announcers, walk-up music, and in-stadium video.
