Earth's magnetic field determines where your pooch wants to poo
Dogs are sensitive, aware beings. In fact, a recent study by Frontiers of Zoology has taken that truth to new depths as they've discovered them to be super in tune with Earth’s magnetic field; using it to decide where to relieve themselves. They've also learned that there's a preference to poo on a north-south axis, when the conditions of said magnetic field are calm.
Kinda trippy, huh?!
The study marks (pun!) the first time that magnetic sensitivity was proven in dogs. Also that their behavioral reactions are largely affected by even the smallest fluctuations of the magnetic field.
So when your canine companion is out for a walk, sniffing about with splendor, it's receiving more information than us humans could possibly imagine. And as they're narrowing down a spot to squat, often circling round and round (a pro move proven to also massage their digestive system), they're tapping into the energy around and stemming from way beneath them.
It's still undetermined as to why dogs take such a thing into consideration. Whether it's a conscious factor of sensory perception (treating it as they do seeing and hearing) or more a sense of control (they feel better; more/less comfortable), it's really rad of them.
And regardless of the direction that they choose to deuce so (wink wink), we do hope you make the responsible human companion decision to help them leave no trace.
