A Photo of a Toddler-Sized Bat is Actually Real

An enormous bat hanging upside-down from a ceiling has been making its rounds online.

Social media has been buzzing over the last week or so because of a photograph of what appears to be a bat the size of a toddler. This thing is huge as it hangs upside, minding its own business, on someone's shed or garage.

I'm not even exaggerating either. Its wingspan is about five feet across. Can you imagine seeing one of those creatures zipping around your backyard at night?

No, it's not Nosferatu.

It's not going to hunt your down and suck your blood either because they're known to be fruit bats.

The species is called the Giant Golden-Crowned Flying Fox and is considered to be endangered due to deforestation, poaching, and other destructive human activities.

The photo was posted on Twitter by the user @AlexJoestar622 who wrote:

"Remember when I told y'all about the Philippines having human-sized bats? Yeah, this was what I was talking about."

Although, it's likely that the perspective of the photograph makes the bat appear larger than it actually is. They're still considered to be the largest bat in the world.

The more I look at them, the more I want to give one a hug. They're kind of cute.

Here's the tweet that started all of the fuss online:
