A free worldwide day of music is coming on Saturday, August 29.
The year is 2020 and getting the chance to enjoy live music has become slim pickin's.
However, "Play Music on the Porch Day"— happening on Saturday, August 29 — is here to remind you that sometimes you need to stop what you're doing, relax, pick up an instrument, and get lost in a song.
The day was created to honor an international day of music. Participation is fairly simple, too.
"Just gather friends, go outside and play music together and you don't even need a porch to join in. Share a video on your favorite social media with #playmusicontheporchday."
In 2019, thousands of musicians from at least 55 countries and over 700 cities from around the world jammed out on their porches.
This year, they're encouraging all musicians to register and perform the powerful tunes that keep you sane, comfortable, and purely happy. It's taking place from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 (whichever time zone you're in).
It's pretty incredible to see how many locations are participating this year. The organization has put together a map to give you an idea of how impactful the day should be.
(Zoom out and see for yourself.)
It's also a great way to get some exposure. People will be searching for local bands and possibly bands in some of their favorite cities. It's an easy way to draw a crowd now and then retain these newfound fans when live venues start allowing shows again.
Don't forget to register before Saturday, August 29, and then be sure to use the hashtag #playmusicontheporchday when you share your video on social media. For more information, visit playmusicontheporchday.com.
