Sodium Lamp, a Poem

A gloaming peek at persistence

A solitary salt-yellow

soldier.

An illumination

to fend off the nocturnal.

Send a beacon

to the dark corners

a compass cannot find.

Mesquite arms

in need of the morning

yaw toward the glint

when the night has none to offer.

Without it,

not to be noticed,

not to be green,

not to be.

A lightless anglerfish

lost in the brine

of deep sea as I am lost to

the green of the leaves.
