It's trippy to think about how far trash can travel. A far-flung example washed up in Ireland with the discovery of a hard hat that had drifted over 4,000 miles, from Mississippi.
The personalized work hat belonging to a Belle Chasse worker was lost in the Mississippi River, figured to never be seen again. Thanks to a beach wanderer in the seaside village of Fanore, that's not the case.

Intrigued by the decor of the hat, the finder shared some images to a Facebook page for odd finds. Soon enough another member of the page started puzzle-piecing, recognizing a sticker for the International Union of Operating Engineers and a specific locality. The union was then contacted and a call put out to its members.
Word soon reached the fella who thought he'd lost his durable protective cap for good, and into the mail system it went; back to its long lost owner.
