"Symbolism is no mere idle fancy or corrupt degeneration; it is inherent in the very texture of human life.' -Alfred North Whitehead
Symbols have been used to teach and share knowledge and information between people and cultures for millennia, carrying with them secrets to help you decode your connection with yourself, others, and the Universe at large.
With a little curiosity, humor, and awareness, you will notice how beneficial (even when subtle) of a role symbols play in our lives.
From the words we speak to the numbers that we repeatedly notice; the music that we vibe with, and the people that surround us...everything is a representation of what we've been taught along the way and how it's incorporated into our days.
Let's get more specific using the image of the four coyotes, taken during a sunrise walk when parts of Nature not readily seen during the day are making their way back to a separate space of safety.
The coyote symbolizes guidance toward eased stressed, calmed spirit, and adaptability to any condition; balancing between being both playful and wise.
Coyote symbolism challenges us to face things we push down and bury as coping mechanisms, with the eyes of good humor, laughing at our mistakes and using them as teachable moments.
Simultaneously, the number four resonates with the vibration of service, community, patience, devotion, and foundation. A number of stabilization that can undertake difficult tasks with the capacity for focused will, awareness, and acceptance; conscientious and responsible. Four is creative yet organized; firm-footed, dependable, and informed.
For me, this view and the opportunity to witness that playful pack was the reminder that I can find ease in being vulnerable, bringing to light what I’ve learned to keep buried. Buried due to thoughts of not wanting to inconvenience or disrupt others. Buried due to lack of self worth, when it comes down to it.
This collection of symbols acted as a reminder that I can free it all with an innocent, care-full heart; that it doesn’t have to feel heavy as I surrender. And it crossed my path with such impeccable timing.
Always remember that people aren't just people; things, not just things. Each represent something to us, often an emotion - a fear, a sense of safety and security, or even trigger for anger. Each is a piece of the puzzle toward our growth and understanding of our paths; the habitual cycles passed on to us, and the opportunity to unlearn what no longer suits us.
What do the people in your life symbolize?
Both pleasant and not so much. Imperative or superficial. They all count!
What does education mean to you? To those around you?
Has it been a burden or a freedom? Limiting or expanding?
What does success mean to you? And to those around you?
Does the size of the paycheck mean more than the size of the joy in your life?
This is not an invitation to judge or compare. This is an invitation to slow down and be aware of the value and power that you connect to the symbols in your life.
There truly is guidance on our path, every step of the way. We just have to be present, stay curious, and choose to do the work in putting the pieces together. Assign the value of your symbols with the heart of a dolphin, might we say: playful, harmonious, compassionate, and self-respecting.
