Un-learning habitual mindsets that hold you back
The majority of us are taught from early on that there are always things either missing or not yet achieved that keep us from feeling complete.
"The one", a degree or mortgage, a specific number on the scale, children and grandchildren, etc. We're rarely brought up with a foundation that celebrates the fact that we're whole, as is. No exceptions.
Sometimes it takes people nearly 30 years (hand held high here) to start embracing this as a personal truth. Others, an entire lifetime. Some, hundreds of lifetimes. The length of the search to align with the truth of our wholeness means nothing. The intention with which we approach, nurture and cultivate that truth means everything.
When we allow ourselves the focus, awareness, and discipline to mind our minds, we create the ultimate opportunity to shift the direction of our previous perceptions. We allow ourselves the space to monitor the thoughts that we entertain and the thoughts that we choose to expand upon. In that, we also allow ourselves the choice to let them go (hello, patience and grace!).
"It was when I stopped searching for home within others and lifted the foundations of home within myself I found there were no roots more intimate than those between a mind and body that have decided to be whole." -Rupi Kaur
And, just as it took us practice to let harmful thoughts and thought paths become habitual (hard to image it began as choice, right?), so will it take practice to wrench the system that we've created. To make the tiny, consistent tweaks that lead to an overhauling of the self-harming mentalities and expectations that we (often) unknowingly make priority.
It can be tough. Heck, it WILL be tough at times. But through that natural, self-love fueled resistance comes the internal strength that you've been burying beneath those lies of incompleteness. Toss the lies. And let that freedom fly.
